Current Job/City: Account Executive at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA

Year in Club/Team: 4 years, 2000-2004, served as PR, secretary, and historian 

Accomplishments: In 2005, I placed fourth at IHSA Nationals in the Alumni Over Fences class.  Currently, I ride with other team alums at Clover Grove in Staunton and show on the SWVHJA circuit in the Level 2 and Child/Adult Jumpers.  My mare, Castlellen, and I were the SWVHJA Level 2 Jumpers Year End Champions in 2011.

Favorite Undergrad Experience: Early morning horse shows with my best friends

Leslie Wright Betterton

Current Job/City: Equine Field Service Veterinary Technician (LVT) at the VT Vet School in Blacksburg, VA

Years in Club/Team: 2000-2003 club and team

Accomplishments: Treasurer of the club in 2002-2003 and rode in the Advanced WTC division.

Katy Bucy

Year/Degree: 2006/ Biochemistry

Current Job/City: Veterinary Student at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts- West Indies

Years in Club/Team: In club- Fall 2002 to Spring 2006. IHSA Team- Fall 2003. IDA- Fall 2003-Spring 2006

 

 

Accomplishments: Rode in IDA Nationals for the 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 years.  Won IDA Lower Training Division National Title in spring 2005.  IDA Team Captain for 2005/2006 year.  Club President for 2005/2006 year.  Assistant coach for IDA Team for 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 years.

Favorite undergrad experience: â€‹My favorite part of my undergrad experience was joining the VTET.  In joining the IDA team I found an awesome support system and a family away from home.  I don’t think I could have done anywhere near as well as I did at Virginia Tech if I did not have this wonderful group of people to turn to.  It was amazing how close all three of the teams are together.
Favorite Campbell Horse: 
Brummel, Braveheart, Impulse, Mansfield and Woo Pony
Advice:
 Join in and become involved in activities at school, try a new thing each semester, just don’t overexert yourself.  The group of people you meet though undergrad will quickly become like family and you will be forever blessed for having them in your life :-) also Always Reach For The Stars!

Accomplishments: walk trot rider on Hunter team, 4th place in walk trot class at Nationals in Murfeesboro,Tennessee

Favorite undergrad experience: Without a doubt, my favorite part of my undergraduate experience was joining the VT equestrian team and traveling to shows, especially Nationals in Tennessee.  I really had the time of my life!

Advice: Enjoy your time at VT and do as many activities as you can because it goes by way too fast!   Also, go to the Cascades…A LOT!!

 

 

Alissa (Cowan) Norman

Year/Degree: 1996/ Forestry and Wildlife

Current Job/City: Stay at home mom, south-east PA.  Also on the organizing committee for Fair Hill International (CCI *** three day event in Maryland).

Year in Club/Team: 1995 – 1998 (1996 – 1998 as Stable Manager, assistant riding instructor)

 

 

 

Accomplishments: I’m sure my biggest accomplishment was cheering you on while travelling to IHSA shows with you.  And I am very proud to have provided a new W/T rider from one of my beginner classes.  And also to survive two years working at Campbell Arena without being eaten by the infamous Ensign.
Favorite undergrad experience: The whole thing.  It was the best four years of my life.

Kristen (Marley) Roach

Accomplishments: Club:  College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (CALS) Representative; Intramural Sports Chair; Intramural Inner-Tube Water Polo Captain (2006-2007); Awarded Intramural Sportsmanship Award for Inner-Tube Water Polo team in 2007; Intramural Inner-Tube Water Polo Team made it to the Championship game in 2007; Assisted with the Big/Little pilot program

Favorite undergrad experience: It’s very hard to come up with a “favorite part” of my undergrad experience, but I’ve listed a few highlights:  Beating #2 Miami on National TV in 2003 & rushing the field; the VT Photo Shoot for the Freshman Viewbook at T’s house in 2005; VTET Horse Shows (van rides, prepping, course building, etc); the heated Alphin-Stuart arena; The friendships and my teammates; Participating in the “Invent the Future” commercial for the 2006 football season; IHSA Zones at VT in 2007; Meeting my husband; Hokie Football; Inner-tube water polo matches
Favorite Campbell Horse: Luminary, Woo, Aqua, & Wellington (sorry, I couldn’t choose just one! ☺)
Advice: Cherish your time at VT, it will come to an end much too quickly.  I hope that those years spent in Blacksburg are the best years of your life, they were certainly mine.

Favorite undergrad experience: Being part of Virginia Tech equestrian, early morning van rides and sing alongs on our way to the Horses shows, 2014 IHSA Nationals with Reanna Wall, Starbucks runs with my teammates, everything! Oh, and the football games and weekend shenanigans with my friends

Favorite Campbell horse: Nimue 

Advice: You only get four years at this incredible school. EMBRACE every moment you have here. Don't be afraid to step far out of your comfort zone, to take risks, and change your mind. Once the real world comes, they expect you to know who you are- and Virginia Tech is the perfect place to discover that. Also, embrace what it means to be a VT Equestrian, go to the shows, help out, fall in love with this program, and always thank your Coach.

Advice: Follow your heart! I changed my major three times and love what I am doing now! And if you have the chance to travel to a developing country do it -- it will change your life. Also, always thank Sherri for everything!
