Meet our Coach
Katrina Williams is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelors in Animal and Poultry Sciences. She now operates a lesson and training program out of her barn at Shadow Valley Performance Horses, along with coaching our team. She grew up in 4-H and FFA riding horses of multiple different disciplines and breeds. In middle school she began her journey showing AQHA and began breaking and training horses. In 2014, she was high point rider of the year in the novice youth division for the Virginia Quarter Horse Association with a horse she trained herself (VT Western’s team horse “Shadow”). When time allows, she enjoys showing horses and training youngsters on the side.

How the Western Team Runs

Team Members ride once a week in a lesson with Coach Katrina Williams. Team Members also receive one practice ride a week where they can work and practice on what ever they wish. The Virginia Tech Western asks every team member to complete one barn task every ride to help maintain the health of our horses and tack. These tasks should take no longer than 30 minutes.

Any conflicts with attendance should be emailed to your team captain and coach beforehand or you are considered unexcused. If deemed appropriate in the eyes of the coaches and captains, make up work may be assigned, or the event will be excused
